Taylor 214ce Deluxe Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar (with Case) Review

The Taylor 214ce Grand Auditorium gets the Deluxe treatment with ES2 Expression System 2 pickups, a full-gloss finish, and a Taylor hardshell case included.

Sweet Taylor Tone and Playability -- With a Few Deluxe Upgrades!

Based on Taylor's overwhelmingly popular Grand Auditorium 214ce, the Taylor 214ce Deluxe acoustic-electric guitar features a solid Sitka spruce top, layered rosewood or Hawaiian koa back and sides, a sapele neck topped with an ebony fretboard, a Venetian cutaway, and Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics. "Deluxe" upgrades include a full-gloss finish and included Taylor hardshell case. Pick one up, and you'll see how Taylor's 200 series guitars have created a new standard in the world of acoustic-electric axes!

Taylor's 200 Series Acoustic-Electric Guitars

Taylor has raised the bar in playability and the ability to capture and project the warmth and resonance of choice tonewoods. The 200 series features acoustic-electrics built with Sitka spruce tops, and layered rosewood, koa, or sapele back and sides. They are as mesmerizing to look at as they are to play and hear. The 214ce Deluxe is crafted in Taylor's most popular body shape -- the Grand Auditorium -- which delivers even and balanced tone from deep lows to crisp highs.

Sitka Spruce and Layered Indian Rosewood or Hawaiian Koa Body

To provide each note with warm resonance and lingering sustain, the 214ce Deluxe boasts a Sitka spruce top your choice of a layered Indian rosewood or Hawaiian koa back and sides. Sitka spruce is a strong and resilient wood that ages well and holds up strongly to scratches and scuffs, and it brings a sharp crispiness to your playing. Layered rosewood maintains an even tone with balanced highs and lows, while Hawaiian koa, a tropical wood, keeps your tones bright and warm, and tends to mellow over time. These woods maintain their resonance and warmth throughout the years so you can be sure that you'll be playing this acoustic-electric for a long time.

Supremely Playable Sapele Neck

Wrap your hands around this guitar's comfortable sapele neck and you'll experience the incredible playability that Taylor's 200 series axes have to offer. A super-smooth ebony fingerboard is inviting to the touch, and each of this appendage's 20 frets harness a tight action that's tough to beat. The Venetian cutaway on your 214ce Deluxe's body gives you easy access to those higher frets when you want to kick things up a notch or two during solos and crispy licks. Taylors are known for their playability, and the 214ce Deluxe is certainly no exception!

"Best Acoustic Guitar I ever owned."
Overall: I am a professional musician. I have owned many guitars throughout my life, as I've been playing for 41 years. This is by far, the best acoustic guitar I have ever owned. It comes just as they promise. Straight out of the box, begging to be played. I did have to change the strings, as I require the super light strings. 9 to 42. But I hesitated changing the strings. These come with Elixir strings. You cannot do better. Totally worth the money. And the Taylor Hard Shell case is top notch.
Style of Music: Contemporary Christian. From Country, to hard Rock. We do it all.

Overall: Got this 214ce using Zzounds 12 pay plan and could not be any happier. The guitar was setup and played perfect straight from the box. You cannot go wrong with Taylor quality. My only reservation when ordering was that this guitar is said to be best for those who pick rather than strum and I am mainly just a strummer type. I found that the tone is perfect for strumming, maybe a little lighter tone than say, a Martin, when unplugged, but still sounds great and when plugged in the onboard tone adjustments allow you to add enough bass to get that deeper tone through your amp. I have barely put this thing down since I got it and it has rekindled my guitar playing. You cannot go wrong here!

Overall: I purchased this guitar, my first Taylor, blind after watching a few YouTube videos and doing a bit of research. I wanted a cutaway electric acoustic that would project well without an amp. I have to admit, when I first received this I wasn’t sure if I’d made the right choice. It is a beautiful guitar and plays very nicely. The more I played however the more it grew into the expectations I had when I purchased it. I think that maybe the new strings just needed to be broken in. The tone is amazing and it really shines finger style. However that doesn’t mean it doesn’t sound great any other play styles. Overall the tone is beautiful, the guitar looks great especially with the all gloss finish, and the case is comes with is top notch. You definitely get what you pay for on this one. If you’re on the edge about adding this one to your collection, just pull the trigger. You won’t be disappointed.
